Beauty: In Your Own Backyard

So Mammoth isn't exactly "my backyard" but the Mammoth mountain area is my husbands second home, so it's pretty close! On our trip, Timothy read about Black Velvet Coffee and we wanted to check it out. Unfortunately, we only had time for coffee to go on our way back home, but the iced vanilla latte and cold brew we had were great, and rivaled our favorite Portland coffee shops. Next time we go we are planning to hang out and have some wine! This cute coffee bar pretty much has it all!

Weekend Happenings

Is it just me, or has it felt like it's the weekend since the Friday before the 4th of July? I wish every week was a 3 day work week. Here are some highlights from the past few days. Really trying to enjoy summer as fully as possible this year!

Weekend Happenings

It already feels like summer around here, and I am really enjoying late night movies and bonfires in the backyard, breakfast at the beach and countless margaritas.

My mom and I have had Disneyland annual passes off and on for years. Since we've moved back to California Timothy and I finally were able to get passes again and in spite of the crowds and long lines, going to Disneyland is still one of my favorite ways to spend a random weekday afternoon or late night. Here are some photos from our last trip last week!

Weekend Happenings

This weekend was equal parts busy and relaxing. I went to Disneyland twice, enjoyed drinks with my mom at Downtown Disney, indulged in Sprinkles cupcakes with friends and hit our favorite burger place with Timothy. The unofficial drink of the weekend was rosé and I'm now obsessed with Underwood Wines rosé in a can! Who would have guessed it would be amazing.

Timothy and I lived in Newport on the peninsula for about 4 years. They were probably the most fun 4 years of our marriage. We had a tradition of riding bikes to Lido Diner (now Woody's Diner, but the food tastes just as good as always!) every sunday for breakfast. Last sunday we were feeling hungry and a little homesick so we drove over to Lido. I took just a few photos along the way, but otherwise enjoyed a relaxing sunday brunch. I love this magical little area, so I wanted to share even though this post is short and sweet.

Weekend Happenings

I was pretty MIA last week. I got a bad case of food poisoning or the flu (or both) over the last weekend and it took me awhile to recover. That didn't give me much time to prepare for the Behind the Picket Fence sale we were signed up for on Saturday but I got it done.

It was really fun to have a booth right next to my friends at Vintage Times Two and even though the rain put a slight damper on our day, we had fun! I'll be posting some of my leftover stuff in the shop soon!

My friends and I had a concert in LA scheduled on a random weekday so we decided to make a whole day of it to avoid after work traffic. We all took the day off or got off early and went to a few of my favorite places in LA.

We started with wings and cocktails at Little Bear, moved on to Arts District Brewing for some beer and skee ball and then hung out on the roof at Ace for a bit. All in all it was a pretty perfect day, and a great precursor to an awesome show that night. Still on a high from seeing Say Anything again, one of my favorite bands of all time.

I wanted to get out of the house this week while I was working on some design projects I have going on. I knew I wanted coffee so we headed to Portola Coffee at Pacific City. Pacific City is fairly new and last time I was there a lot of the restaurants and stores were still under construction. Timothy and I were super stoked to see that most of the outdoor mall is completed and there are tons of cool restaurants and bars that we want to check out. There are plenty of lounge areas and every restaurant has a cool patio with an ocean breeze to relax on. With this being a short bike ride from our house, I know we will be here a lot, and I'm really looking forward to spending warm days here.

Weekend Happenings

This weekend was sunny and beautiful. A perfect spring weekend that was sunny but not too hot and that got sufficiently cool enough for bonfires once the sun disappeared. We got to hang out with the family I was born to, as well as the family I chose, and that is a beautiful thing.

There's been this cool empty building in our neighborhood for years. It was a vintage store for awhile, and my dad told me years ago it was a gas station. It's pretty centrally located on a busy corner and we could never figure out why it wasn't being used. I always thought it would make a kick ass modern home, since it has glass roll up doors and an industrial look. Finally it seemed like people were doing some work on it. Some plants went in, lining the property and we eventually saw a long counter with beer and wine glasses being set up and what looked like a pizza oven.

We were stoked to get to check it out today. It's called 2145 and I feel like it has everything that I miss from little restaurants in Portland. It's only open for lunch right now but I am definitely anticipating some fun summer night hangouts on their patio. We didn't have time to have beer or wine but they had a pretty extensive list and some great food. The service was super friendly too, and I am looking forward to becoming a regular.

We tried the Spicy Marinara Pizza, Garlic Parmesan Fries, and Octopus Croquettes. Everything was amazing and the little touches they put on the presentation were nice without seeming like they were trying too hard. I love supporting local businesses and I will be telling all of my friends about this one.

Weekend Happenings

This weekend was all about being outside. The weather was beautiful and honestly I would have felt silly not taking advantage of it. Timothy made arrangements with his sister to do the yearly clean out of the pond he designed in her backyard years ago. We spent our Saturday hanging out with her and getting covered in pond muck, and our Sunday relaxing and hanging out with my side of the family. All in all, a productive, relaxing and sun kissed weekend. I have the sunburned shoulders to prove it.

Beauty: In Your Own Backyard

Growing up in Southern California is weird. I'm used to having easy access to so many beautiful and fun things, but it's easy to take it for granted and get bored. When we moved to Portland I appreciated California a bit more, especially when it comes to stores and restaurants staying open later, and not having to go to a specific liquor store to buy anything other than beer and wine. I want to get all my Taco Tuesday supplies in one place, and I need tequila for that, thank you very much!

I'm working on appreciating what I have while I have it and enjoy what my backyard has to offer. One of my favorite things to do is rent a duffy boat for a sunset cruise with friends and bring along our favorite snacks and drinks and of course some good music. Really looking forward to doing this more as the weather warms up.
